The cornerstone of the music program at Christ Church is the twenty-member Parish Choir, directed by Gary Van Essen. Made up of a combination of trained and amateur musicians, the choir performs a variety of modern and classic choral repertoire for the weekly 10 a.m. worship service and for concerts and special events. Some of the choir’s favorite composers include John Ness Beck, John Rutter, Craig Courtney and Dan Forrest.
The choir is open to high school students and adults, without audition. The Parish Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings after the 10 a.m. service from 11:30 am – 12:30 p.m.
Intergenerational Handchime Choir
New for the 2017-2018 season is our three octave handchime choir, under the direction of Goldey Vansant. Our handchime choir brings together children and adults to enhance worship with music.
Open to children fourth grade and up and adults of all ages, the handchime choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6:45-7:30 p.m. The ability to read music is helpful, but not required!
The praise band plays for our 10 a.m. service about once a month. Currently our band consists of drums, bass, piano and flute. New members are welcome to play instruments or sing.
The praise band rehearses as needed before we play for worship.
